When you've won everything by the age of 22, all that's left is to have fun.

And after his latest world record, which swept the world medals, Armand Duplantis said a "madness of emotion" led to an unexpected celebration.

"I can't remember the last time I did a front flip," Duplantis, known as 'Mondo', told the BBC World Service. "It was definitely not a planned celebration."

Crowned Olympic champion at the age of 21, Sweden's pole vault star is the reigning world and European champion indoors and outdoors.

He has bettered his own leading mark four more times since breaking Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie's world record in February 2020.

The latter, with a barely believable, front flip-inspiring clearance of 6.21m, delivered world gold in Eugene last summer.

"It was such a special moment the way everything came together," Duplantis said. "It was the world championships and I was the only person on the track. I was the show at that moment."

He added: "When it happened there was this mad rush of emotions and you didn't know what to do with it.

"You have to let it go somehow and the flip just kind of happened. If I hadn't gotten it off it would have sucked. Luckily it's OK."

It works much better than all is well. Duplantis won gold after his first ever clearance of over 6m, with none of his rivals vaulting over 5.94m.

As the crowd rose to their feet in anticipation, the American-born Swede cleared a record height with the world at his feet, securing his major titles.

"It's a really special thing and I can definitely feel it," Duplantis said, reflecting on his accomplishment.

"It's not a feeling of inspiration or anything like that. I still have the fire and I want to do more. I feel this weight off my shoulders.

"If I only think about medals over the years, I'm missing the whole meaning of what I've been trying to do, which is trying to push myself and push the barriers of what's possible.

"I think height is the most important thing for me right now. I really want to see how high I can go."

"Maybe I'm not enough of a mathematician to know what a real limit is or even what's possible," Duplantis said. "But I know I can jump higher."

He added: "I want to jump 6.30 because it sounds cool. Because it's not a limit or anything like that."
